A walk through the entire village of Ždiar can be considered a smaller hike. Along the road, the village stretches for several kilometres and cuts into several valleys. The buildings in Ždiar quite often use wood as a building material, which gives many dwellings a unique character.

The Museum of the Ždiar House is located in a wooden house – that means in the original architecture. The exhibition consistently maps the life of the local Gorals, has authentic interior equipment and a wealth of folk costume clothing. The phenomena include the opportunity to become acquainted with the ceremony of the Ždiar wedding. Those interested are offered the opportunity to try out the local folk costume. The photos taken will remind you of the uniqueness of this exhibition for years to come.

Visit the northernmost Ruthenian village of Osturňa, which is one of the longest villages in northern Slovakia (8km). Unique log houses perched on a stone foundation wall, or ornamentally decorated shutters and beams are typical here. Today, the 157 wooden houses of Osturňa form a folk architecture monument reserve. In the building of the renovated school, there is a museum exposition of the Osturňa room available to the general public.

The road leading west from the village will bring visitors to Veľká Franková. Winter provides an opportunity to explore the surroundings on cross-country skis. Year-round, you can reach as far as to the Polish village of Kacvín on well-marked hiking trails. Another tourist route leads towards Spišská Magura through the village of Malá Franková. It is the highest village in Zamagurie region with an altitude of 750 meters. In the village it is possible to admire the “Garden of the Holy Sevenths” (Ogrod svätých sedmopočetníkov) – the Old Slavonic complex and the first folk museum of Glagolitic. A rarity is the smallest wooden church in Slovakia, located in the middle of the complex. On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the founding of the village, a unique wooden cross with solar backlight was installed under the ridge of Spišská Magura.
